Care Home Nurses Are Suspended.

Manchester Evening News

Six nurses at a private care home have been suspended after an elderly resident who had fallen in her room was allegedly put back to bed – even though it emerged she had broken her hip. The National Care Standards Commission, an independent body based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, confirmed that six registered nurses had been suspended pending an investigation. No one at the 122-bed Rose Court nursing home in Water Street, Radcliffe, was willing to comment about the matter.

It is alleged an elderly resident at the home fell in her room and was put back to bed by staff. It was later discovered that she had suffered a fractured hip and was taken to hospital, where she had an operation. A spokesman for Highland Care, the company which owns the home, confirmed one resident had been hurt, but declined to comment in more detail.

He said: “The management of Rose Court care home are working closely with the National Care Standards Commission after alerting them to issues arising in the home following an accident involving a resident”.

A spokesman at the Commission said: “We are aware that a number of staff have been suspended from Rose Court. This is because of staffing issues. Which are now being investigated. We will be monitoring this and hope to have the results of the investigation in a week or so”.

In 1977, the same nursing home was investigated by health officials and a member of staff was suspended. At the time, the M.E.N reported how it was believed a complaint had been made by another employee at the home. Some worried families took their relatives out of the home.
