Self Advocates
People with learning disabilities who speak for themselves and make
their own decisions.
Service
User -
person who uses a service. This service could be any service provided
by social service, the NHS or any other agency. If you receive a
service, or pay for a service, you are a service user. Families
or carers who use a respite care, or short term break service are
users of that service. It is not only the person who goes on the
break that is the service user, families and carers are service
users also.
Social Services Inspectorate (SSI)
Each local authority has a duty to establish an inspection unit
to inspect
Residential accommodation provided by the local authority
Other residential accommodation in its area which has to be registered
under Part 1 of the Registered Homes Act 1984
Community homes and registered children's homes

Contact your local authority and ask for to speak to an inspector
in the Inspection Unit.
